A bit overstimulated

“I hope I didn’t overwhelm you too much. I can be much calmer. I think the stress of the past period has just left me a little overstimulated.”

The story

A bit overstimulated

Bianca was in the middle of renovating her house. The decisions she had to make, together with the time pressure, made her feel insecure and anxious. The anxiety only seemed to grow as the renovations progressed.

This stood in sharp contrast to the positivity she radiated and her generally upbeat outlook on life. Though full of energy, she also needed moments of peace, which she found in yoga and meditation.

For our first date, we decided to go out for dinner. She was exactly as I had imagined. With online dating, it’s easy to misjudge someone. But with her that wasn’t the case. She was spontaneous and genuine, just as I had hoped. I knew right away it would be the kind of evening I would enjoy. A relaxed conversation in a quiet place where we could lose track of time. Her easy-going nature made me feel comfortable. I didn’t experience it as overwhelming or intense.

Only the next day did I learn that she had been worried about that.

By the end of our evening at the restaurant, we hadn’t even noticed that all the other tables were empty and that we were the last customers left. That said a lot. Although we both would have loved to stay and keep talking, it was clear the night had come to an end. It was an experience that will stay with me forever, as moments like that are rarer than I dare to admit.
